Trouble signing in
Sign-in methods, what each sign-in error means, email verification, password reset, and two-factor authentication.
This page covers the ways you can sign in to Deni AI, what each sign-in error means, and how to get back in when something goes wrong.
Gmail addresses need Google or GitHub
You can't create an account with a Gmail address and a password, or with an email sign-in link. Use Continue with Google or Continue with GitHub instead. See Gmail addresses.
Ways to sign in
Sign in at deniai.app/auth/sign-in. New accounts start at deniai.app/auth/sign-up.
| Method | Button or link |
|---|---|
| Email and password | Sign In |
| Email sign-in link | Continue with Magic Link: we email you a link that signs you in. It works for 5 minutes. |
| Continue with Google | |
| GitHub | Continue with GitHub |
| Passkey | Continue with Passkey |
| No account | Continue as Guest. See Guest accounts. |
To use a passkey, add one first in Account › Security under Passkeys › Add passkey.
Which email addresses can sign up
New accounts need one of these addresses:
- Major email providers, such as Outlook, Hotmail, Live, iCloud, Yahoo, Proton, AOL, Zoho, Fastmail, HEY, Tuta, GMX, Yandex, Mail.ru, QQ, 163, Naver, Daum, Kakao, and Japanese carrier addresses (docomo, au, SoftBank, and others).
- School addresses under
.edu,.ac.jp,.ed.jp,.ac.uk,.sch.uk,.edu.au,.ac.nz,.ac.kr,.edu.tw,.edu.sg, or.edu.hk. - Your work address, if your company has a paid Deni AI team plan and has verified that email domain.
The same rule applies when you sign up with Google or GitHub: the address they share with Deni AI must be on this list. For example, a Google account on a company domain is refused unless your team has verified that domain.
If you already have an account, you can keep signing in even if your address's domain is no longer accepted.
To ask us to accept another domain, contact us.
Gmail addresses
Gmail addresses (gmail.com and googlemail.com) can sign up only with Continue with Google or Continue with GitHub.
With GitHub, Deni AI receives the email address you chose on GitHub.
If that is a Gmail address with a + tag or unusual dots, it's refused as an alias. Use your plain Gmail address on GitHub, or use Continue with Google.
Alias addresses
When you sign up with an email address, addresses with + tags (such as [email protected]) or unusual dots are refused. Use your primary address.
Sign-in error messages

| "Invalid email or password" | Check both and try again. If you signed up with Google, GitHub, or a passkey, sign in that way. To add a password, see Reset your password. |

| "Gmail addresses must sign in with Google or GitHub. …" | Use Continue with Google or Continue with GitHub. |
| "This email looks like an alias (plus tags or unusual dots). …" | Use your primary address without a + tag. |
| "Please use a major email provider (Outlook, iCloud, Proton, etc.) or a restricted educational address …" | This address can't be used for a new account. See Which email addresses can sign up. |

Google and GitHub sign-in errors
If Google or GitHub sign-in fails, you come back to the sign-in page with a We couldn't sign you in message and the reason.

Email verification
When you sign up with an email address and password, we send you a verification link. Open it to finish signing up; it signs you in. The link works for 1 hour.
- Didn't get it? Check your spam folder, then select Resend on the Verify Email page.
- If you try to sign in before verifying, we send a new link and show the Verify Email page.
If you're signed in right after signing up with no verification step, email sending is turned off on the service. In that case the Forgot password? link isn't shown either.
Reset your password
- On the sign-in page, select Forgot password?.
- Enter your email address and select Send reset link.
- Open the link in the email and set a new password (at least 8 characters). The link works for 1 hour.
Resetting your password signs you out on every device.
If you see "Invalid reset password token", the link has expired or was already used. Request a new one.
No password yet? If you signed up with Google or GitHub, you can add a password in Account › Security. Under Set password, request a reset link.
Two-factor authentication
Turn it on
- Open Account › Security and find Two-factor authentication.
- Select Turn on and enter your password.
- Scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or 1Password. If you can't scan it, enter the key shown below the code.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the app.
- Save your backup codes with Copy or Download. They're shown only once.
Two-factor authentication protects sign-ins with your password or an email sign-in link, so you need a password to turn it on. If you signed up with Google or GitHub, set a password first. Sign-ins with Google, GitHub, or a passkey don't ask for a code.
To turn it off, select Turn off on the same card and enter your password.
Sign in with a code
If your account has two-factor authentication turned on, you're asked for a code after you enter your password or open an email sign-in link. On the Two-factor authentication page, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
- Check Trust this device for 30 days to skip the code on this browser for 30 days.
- The code page expires after 10 minutes. If you see "Your two-factor session expired. Please sign in again.", start over from the sign-in page.
- After too many wrong codes, you'll see "Too many failed attempts. Your account is temporarily locked. Please try again later." Wait, then try again.
Backup codes
On the Two-factor authentication page, select Use a backup code instead and enter one of your backup codes. Each backup code works only once. Keep the rest somewhere safe, away from your phone.
To get a new set, select New backup codes in Account › Security and enter your password. Your old codes stop working.
If you lose your authenticator device
- Sign in with a backup code.
- On a browser where you checked Trust this device for 30 days within the last 30 days, you may still be able to sign in without a code.
- If neither works, contact us.
