Deni AI Support
Flixa

Use Flixa with external coding tools

Set up Flixa in Claude Code, Codex, Zed, opencode, and other tools.

You can use Flixa from tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Zed, and opencode. Point the tool at Flixa, and it runs on the usage included in your Deni AI plan.

  • Claude Code / Codex: one Flixa CLI command sets everything up.
  • Zed / opencode: add Flixa to the tool's settings file.

Which tools you can use depends on your plan

On the Free and Go plans, you can use Claude Code, Codex, Zed, opencode, and Flixa (the VS Code extension and CLI). Other tools need Plus or higher. See Other tools.

Before you start

API key

Flixa needs a Deni AI API key (a string that starts with deni_).

  • With the Flixa CLI (Claude Code / Codex): run flixa login and sign in in your browser. The key is saved for you.
  • Manual setup (Zed, opencode, and others): create a key in Settings › API Keys. The key is shown only once, so copy it right away.

Guest accounts can't create API keys. Sign in first.

Authenticate with an Authorization: Bearer deni_... or x-api-key: deni_... header.

Models

Model IDs look like openai/gpt-6-sol or anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5 (provider/model). The model list API returns the current models. A model whose tier is free works on the free plan; plus and pro models need that plan or higher. curl counts as another tool, so this command needs Plus or higher.

curl https://flixa-api.deniai.app/v1/agent/models -H "Authorization: Bearer $FLIXA_API_KEY"

Install the Flixa CLI

Claude Code and Codex are set up with the Flixa CLI.

npm install -g @deniai/flixa
flixa login

Claude Code

flixa claude-code
claude

flixa claude-code changes two files. The originals are kept next to them as *.bak.

  • ~/.claude.json: hasCompletedOnboarding, primaryApiKey
  • ~/.claude/settings.json: env.ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL, env.ANTHROPIC_API_KEY

To preview the changes without writing anything, add --dry-run.

flixa claude-code --dry-run

Manual setup

Without the CLI, add this to ~/.claude/settings.json:

{
  "env": {
    "ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL": "https://flixa-api.deniai.app/v1/agent",
    "ANTHROPIC_API_KEY": "deni_..."
  }
}

Undo

flixa claude-code unset

flixa logout only removes the key saved in the Flixa CLI. It doesn't undo the Claude Code settings.

Codex

flixa codex

This adds a Flixa provider to ~/.codex/config.toml (%USERPROFILE%\.codex\config.toml on Windows) and sets model_provider = "flixa".

Manual setup

Add this to config.toml. Put model_provider at the top of the file, before any section that starts with [.

model_provider = "flixa"
model = "openai/gpt-6-sol"

[model_providers.flixa]
name = "flixa"
base_url = "https://flixa-api.deniai.app/v1/agent"
wire_api = "responses"
requires_openai_auth = false
env_key = "FLIXA_API_KEY"

With env_key, set FLIXA_API_KEY in the environment Codex starts from. To write the key into the file instead, replace env_key with:

[model_providers.flixa.http_headers]
Authorization = "Bearer deni_..."

Undo

flixa codex unset

This removes model_provider = "flixa" from config.toml. The [model_providers.flixa] section stays; delete it by hand if you don't need it.

Zed

Add Flixa to Zed as an OpenAI-compatible provider.

  1. Run zed: open settings from the command palette and add this to settings.json:

    {
      "language_models": {
        "openai_compatible": {
          "Flixa": {
            "api_url": "https://flixa-api.deniai.app/v1/agent",
            "available_models": [
              {
                "name": "anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5",
                "display_name": "Claude Sonnet 5.5 (Flixa)",
                "max_tokens": 1000000,
                "max_output_tokens": 128000
              },
              {
                "name": "google/gemini-3.8-flash",
                "display_name": "Gemini 3.8 Flash (Flixa)",
                "max_tokens": 1048576,
                "max_output_tokens": 65536
              }
            ]
          }
        }
      }
    }
  2. Add your API key in one of these ways:

    • Run agent: open settings, pick Flixa under LLM Providers, and enter the key (it's stored in your system keychain).
    • Set the FLIXA_API_KEY environment variable.
  3. Pick a Flixa model in the Agent panel's model selector.

Don't put the API key in settings.json.

opencode

  1. Add this to your project's opencode.json (or ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json to use it everywhere):

    {
      "$schema": "https://opencode.ai/config.json",
      "provider": {
        "flixa": {
          "npm": "@ai-sdk/openai-compatible",
          "name": "Flixa",
          "options": {
            "baseURL": "https://flixa-api.deniai.app/v1/agent",
            "apiKey": "{env:FLIXA_API_KEY}"
          },
          "models": {
            "anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.5": {
              "name": "Claude Sonnet 5.5",
              "limit": { "context": 1000000, "output": 128000 }
            },
            "google/gemini-3.8-flash": {
              "name": "Gemini 3.8 Flash",
              "limit": { "context": 1048576, "output": 65536 }
            }
          }
        }
      }
    }
  2. Add your API key in one of these ways:

    • Set the FLIXA_API_KEY environment variable.
    • Run /connect in opencode, choose Other, enter flixa as the provider ID, then enter the key. You can then remove the options.apiKey line.
  3. Pick a Flixa model with /models.

Other tools

Requires Plus or higher.

On Plus or higher, any tool that supports the OpenAI API (Chat Completions or Responses) or the Anthropic Messages API works the same way. This includes your own scripts and direct calls from tools like curl.

  • Base URL: https://flixa-api.deniai.app/v1/agent
  • API key: deni_...
  • Model: a Flixa model ID such as openai/gpt-6-sol
PlanTools you can use
Free / GoClaude Code, Codex, Zed, opencode, Flixa (VS Code extension and CLI)
Plus / ProAll of the above, plus any compatible tool

On the Free and Go plans, other tools get the error "This app is not available on your plan".

Troubleshooting

"Authentication required"

The tool isn't sending your API key.

  • If you pass the key through an environment variable, check that it's set for the terminal or process that starts the tool.
  • On Windows, Codex started from the Start menu or a shortcut can't see a $env: variable set in another PowerShell window. Set it as a system environment variable, or put the key in http_headers.
  • Restart the tool after changing its settings.

Guest account error

Guest accounts can't use Flixa. Sign in and create a new API key.

"This app is not available on your plan"

The Free and Go plans don't support this tool. Use Claude Code, Codex, Zed, opencode, or Flixa, or upgrade to Plus or higher.

A model doesn't work

Some models need a paid plan. Check the model's tier to see whether your plan includes it.
